One of the favorite weekend activities for Chuck and I is going to estate and antique sales. I love finding odd things to re purpose in unusual ways around my house. Recently we found this set of 4 sewing table drawers. [I know exactly what I'm going to do with these, but 1st I need to find the right house to buy.]

When Chuck loaded them into the car he pointed out the surprise of a butterfly in one of the drawers. I thought; Oh, that's sweet.

It wasn't until I got home that I even realized it was a REAL butterfly that is in perfect preserved condition. How on earth did that get there?! You never know what you'll find. That's exactly what keeps me checking out junk!

Rain Boot Love

I live in the Chihuahuan Desert so rain here is very limited, but when I saw these boots with the knit imaging on them it didn't matter. I had to have them and my daughter thought so too because she sent them to me for Christmas! I'm so ~~obsessed~~ in-love with these I was compelled to knit for them!

I made this up because I couldn't find any boot topper patterns that would add to the charming knit stripes on the boots themselves instead of being the main focus. I think this is a good compromise. I'd say this is more a recipe than a pattern though.

I used Cascade 220 in assorted scraps. Having used scraps I'm not sure of the yardage but both together weight 134 grams. (That weight is after I trimmed everything.) Size US #9 needle. Gauge is not important but I have about 4 stitches to the inch in garter stitch.

Here's what I did:

Co 20 stitches, knit 4 rows of each color (=1 stripe.) Colors were chosen in random order and adjusted so they weren't repeated too close. 31 stripes. The 31 stripes were the right length for my specific boots. I wanted the stripes to go completely around the boot top with out too much pull but also not be too loose. I cast off after the 4th row and cut yarn leaving enough to sew up the seem. Then seemed the 1st and last rows together with the mattress stitch.

I then picked up 96 stitches and joined in the round and knit 2x2 rib. You may want to pick up a few extra stitches to make sure you don't have holes or gaps and then evenly around decrease them to a number divisible by 4. I did 29 rows then BO in rib. Of course if you want the "leg" part to be longer you certainly could add rows. If you desire, weave in your ends, but I didn't bother. I just tied 2 side by side ends together and trimmed them evenly around. Using the #9 needle for the ribbing means the ribbing will hug the inside of the boot and not my leg. You might prefer to use a smaller needle so they are snug to your legs!

Fold them over with the ribbing on the inside and wear with great pleasure!!

The girls were fantastic in Santa Fe this past weekend! One more big meet this weekend in Hobbs. I think they all had fun and Miranda was an excellent team leader!

And we had snow! Almost 3" which I'm told is the more snow than this area has had in 10 years! It fell through the early morning of Wednesday. Practically the whole city shut down. Schools where closed, government buildings and even Chuck's work. Then we lost power. Later to find that the electric company had lost two of the generator stations and were over loaded so they were cycling different areas of the city with power outages for an hour at a time. We had 3 outages before we went to bed and the news is reporting it will continue today with the cycling.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I would never find the time to knit." This amazes me. Often when I am waiting around, I knit. A woman recently came and sat with me at a basketball game and asked about my knitting. She shared with me a project she had started 6 months ago. It was a baby sweater for her niece. She had only the sleeves left, but the baby was now 14 months and she was making a 12 month size, no way it would fit her. She then said "with all the kids sports I just don't have the time to knit!" I didn't understand her point. I was at my daughters game, I was knitting. It was a back to back game, I had lots of time to knit, at least 4 hours of it sitting in the bleachers. I said as much and she shrugged. So I continued to knit. While I watched and cheered on my daughter.

I usually have socks OTN because they are easy to travel with and getting to the end of the needle is quick. Do you knit while you wait? What is the perfect project for you to take along?

We've been watching lots of swimming the last couple weeks. Go MVCS Sonblazers! GO BLUE! GO GOLD! Last weekend in Artesia, Johanna beat her personal best time in the 50m Freestyle by 4 seconds! She is the swimmer in bottom lane. Johanna amazes me with her strength and grace. We're heading to Districts this weekend in Sante Fe.

These socks are in MVCS school colors, mostly knit at swimming. Where I find the time.

Patterns

I'm trying to be more adventurous on my life these days. I love knitting and even though Ravelry has an unbelievable amount of patterns, I can't always find exactly what I want. So I improvise. I decided today, I should list a couple of such items as patterns. Who knows, maybe one of my patterns is exactly what someone else is looking for.

I'm starting with my Wee Hats. If the amount of comments and messages I received is any indication this will be a success. Hope you enjoy!

Wee Hats

I used an assortment of left over sock yarns. not much is needed. Less than 5 yards for each hat.

I used size US #0-#1 needles.

Cast on 24 stitches, join in the round for knitting. Knit 4 rounds in 1x1 (K1, P1) rib. Then knit 14 rounds in plain knit, stockinette. Decrease round; *k3, k2tog* around. ( I ended up with 1 extra stitch, I knit it. In the 3rd round this corrects itself.) Knit 1 round. Decrease round; *k2, k2tog* k1. Knit one round. Decrease round; *k1, k2tog.* DO NOT knit a round. Decrease; k2tog around. Draw yarn through the last 5 stitches to close and weave in ends.

I love these little hats, I hung them on my small Christmas tree along with wee socks and sweaters.

I know we've spent a lot of time together this year but it's just not working out. Yes, it's true, I love that you give me so many reasons to knit with wool. Okay, and I do love the way you encourage me to wear the things I knit with wool, too. It's also true that you're beautiful when you glisten in the sunlight and so peaceful looking when gather up gently on the naked tree branches. All wet and heavy.

Maybe at another time we could try things again. Not today, though.

I've met some else. We've gotten close in the last few weeks. We've walked the dogs. Gone on bikes rides. Just enjoyed being together, outside, in the sun.

It started out innocent enough.

I don't mean to rub your face in it, but... I'm sorry, truly I am... This new relationship, it's so full of promise. I want to explore my options. You know, that old adage? Don't settle on the first season. Experience two or three before you decide. I think it goes back to Debutantes and balls....

I didn't think you would hold it against me though. I was sure you could appreciate the charming gifts I've received. Sweet little buds innocently peeking out on the trees. And, please? How can anyone resist the temptation of tulips!?! Their freshness and promise of beautiful colors?

I thought you wanted me to be happy? It didn't have to be this way. I was willing to try again later, in several months. Not now though. I'm done. This is the last straw. It's OVER. I never want to see you again! LOOK at what you've DONE!

GO AWAY! FAR AWAY! Don't come back or I'll get out my shovel and shove you to the curb. DAMN you SNOW!

Twitterific?

I've been "Twittering" for a couple weeks now. I hear about it all the time, on TV, on the radio and even at the knitting shop. I only get the updates on the web and not that regular since I don't get on the computer that much. I don't like the random updates some celebrities do as I have so many to read through since last checking. Although the one from Marilyn today made me laugh and wonder why I was on the computer and not knitting on this rainy day!

So I think I'll share about my knitting. I am focused and on task for the pair of socks each month for my man. I have the yarn chosen and have narrowed my pattern options [I think] to two for April. I will be finishing this months pair by the weekend.

I'm having a hard time keeping focused on the Duxbury Point Wrap I started last November. I'm at row 96 on the 144 (yes, a gross of rows) row repeat that needs to repeat 4 times which equals 576 rows, gross. I probably did not want to know that.....

I have great expectations of finishing my Norwegian Fair isle Socks which is fun to do and surprisingly relaxing, except when the dogs run off with my yarn!

Also, knitting related. I'm attending the Loopy Ewe Spring Fling in April that I'm very excited about it. We had planned to drive but now with airfare being close to the cost of gas [and a desire to not sit in a car for ten or eleven hours] we will probably fly. Flying is slightly out of my comfort zone, as I don't do it often, the speed of time travel by plane is greatly appealing, however.

Since I mentioned the Fling, I should tell you that I am participating in a swap. It is intended so you get to know someone who also is attending the fling and therefore have a friend when you arrive. I have been partnered with Janice. She attended the first Fling last year and had a great time. I met her very briefly once before at the Midwest Fiber Festival in Illinois. I have put together her package and I chose some local things that matched her preferences and I am looking forward to her receiving them. I mailed them out today!

So, I hope it keeps raining and the rain barrels we put out Sunday fill up. I think I'll leave a twitter and then go knit!

It stinks having my husband so far away. Any chance of leaving early has been squelched by the exorbitant flight change fees. I miss him terribly but with the economy the way it is who can justify paying twice as much to leave one day earlier.

Life and times

I have lots of things to catch up on. My laptop died so I am begging and borrowing internet time from the husband and kids. At first I found it to be incredibly frustrating. Then I found it to be inconvenient. Now I find it practical.

I make notes throughout the day about things [I want to check out on-line] that I've heard about from friends, TV or radio. I therefore end up being very organized about my time. I'm focused and my mind doesn't wander, along with my cursor, nearly as often! I am amazed at how much I can get done when I'm not on the computer.

That leads me to what's going on. I'm finishing up all the unfinished knitting I have. I'm making a conscience effort to keep the clutter at bay. I am taking the time to actually cook breakfast and lunch for myself rather than eat quick, garbage food in front of the TV.

My big knitting goal this year, is to knit a pair of socks each month for my husband. I am proud to say, so far I'm 2 for 2 and have started the 3rd today. I am very excited about having 12 pairs of socks, just for him, by the end o the year. Some day I hope he will have enough to wear a different pair every day for a whole month. I know he appreciates my knitting and that makes knitting for him fun. Thanks, honey, I LOVE YOU! And, he doesn't mind spending money on yarn. Bonus.

I've finally mailed Matt's wizard hat off to him. I felted it four times and reshaped it about a million, even added some wire. It's harder than I thought to make a perfect man's wizard hat. Especially when the brim keeps flopping and the top is, um, well, I don't think any man wants to be told he's too limp! Ugh! Well, no turning back now......It looks good on the table and he's so cute he'll look good in it, too!

The first step of making Pralines, butter, sugar and cream, heat to 240 degrees. Step two, add Bourbon and toasted pecans.

Step three, drop by spoonfuls onto parchment paper and let cool.

No where in the directions did it say to push the candy off the spoon with your fingers!

A green Christmas

This year we decided that as part of living a healthier, more earth friendly life, we would use newspaper as gift wrap! I have been having a really great time trying to match articles with the gift recipient. I also think it is rather festive looking with the mix of articles about the holidays.
I'm thrilled with the way the kids are embracing this, too!

Perfect Day?

The weather is amazing. While walking the dogs I had amble opportunity to enjoy the sun and beautiful colors. It made me think.

I wondered how soon the days would have bone chilling winds. Heavy coats and looking for that lost mitten you had just moments before. How miserable I would be scraping ice from my very hard to reach van window. Or worse, scraping frozen poop off frozen grass. It was depressing.

So instead I tried to concentrate on how, with a day like today, in let's say in May, it is filled with excitement and things to come. Trips to the garden center and placing yard ornaments in the perfect spot. Going out with no coat or even shorts if you dare.

That's when I realized I could just enjoy the day. Because it's today. A beautiful day. Filled with the wonder of having four seasons. Fall is a great time of the year. Enjoy every day.

AS the weather turns....

As the cold weather has been creeping in, with pelting hail and bone chilling wind, we have been "winterizing" the yard. It's a good reason to start modeling all the lovely hand knits. It also is inspiring me to finish up all the knitted items that have been keeping my needles cozy.

Rosalie is very thankful to have this finished project I started last May!

I need to get started on all the new fabulous patterns and yarns I've been collecting. I have so many Christmas gifts I want to make. I'm excited to be giving my knitted items to people that will appreciate the work and time put in every stitch.

On the kid front..... Homecoming dances and new experiences as one forges into adulthood.... I wonder why fighting the parental desire to document such moments is required. The pleasure of seeing the kid [who doesn't think brushing his hair is worthwhile] all cleaned up and shiny is far and few between. I need these documents to remind me eventually "teenager" will be a memory and they become normal again.

I guess, if sullen was the look you were going for.......

This weekend the Lovely Stephanie will be coming to visit! She is bringing her very charming partner, Matt and her best friend, Theresa. S, M and T are running in the Free Press Half Marathon. The rest of us will be participated in the 5K walk. We will be on Team Autism.

I am trying to finish knitting my Witch hat so I can get it felted and dried for a party on the 25th. So, I better get going on it.

I enjoy reading blogs about knitting and life of fellow knit addicts. Usually I just read a long and enjoy a laugh or pics of other bloggers incognito. I've followed Knit-Whit for a while now. [I came across her on Ravelry] This month she decided to have a comment contest and I decided to take a whirl at the comment thing. And yes, I one for week one! Whoo-hooo! I will soon be adding a charming wee sock to my collection along with a matching pack of gum!

Also, the girl and I attempted to make a felted bar of soap. I don't think we have quite the knack for this. The soap bar got considerably smaller and the roving felted minimally. Hmmm.

This was a great weekend. We enjoyed the company of family and friends here with a Bar-B-Que and campfire. My husband did a great job smoking the meat starting at 6am. The kids all helped get ready in the yard and cleaning out the garage. Sarah helped with the inside, which was awesome and a giant help, and kept me from being crazy insane and stressed. I think the Sarah help was great for the kids too as their load was lifted significantly. We planted some fall flowers and put out "Christmas" lights. Everyone brought a dish to share and all the food was delicious.

Do you know that only just today I realized no pictures were taken. Not a single one. WHAT'S WITH THAT? I always intend to take picture's and now that it's over I highly regret not having the visual memory's of the people we love just enjoying each other. I will work on this. Starting today the camera will be more accessible and not kept out of the way in my bedroom closet!

Chaotic or Calm?

Cluttered or Comforting?

I find I'm concerned probally more than I should about what others see of my life and home.

Let's assume I have a freind visitng me. She thinks that my life is over cluttered. I have too much furniture in this room. Why don't you put things away and what doesn't fit eliminate? Too many boys sharing this space. Maybe you could reorganize this area? We good make it look so much better.

Now let's assume a different Friend is visiting. Wow, everything is is so nice, your colors are great. I like that you have extra chairs so every one can sit together. I'm amazed how you can fit so many people in so little a space. You always have everything so organized. It looks so nice, too.

But, I suppose it's more telling about the person noticing these things than those being noticed. I know I myself have thought these things about my friends each in turn. And that, I would say is the most interesting.

I should remember that people look at others and see both what they admire and what they hope to be better than. It's not really about you. So, I'll endeavor to remember we all appear one way or another at different times and to different people and that is okay.

I'll strive to be calm and comforting and work on the chaos and clutter, not only with my house but also with those in my life. We all need to see the good while acknowledging the bad so we can continue to grow.

Let's see, my life has been put on hold it seems. M and H are in OK. Still. I have no kitchen. Still. I am traveling with ML for his work. Still. I'm doing laundry for the trip (Buffalo, NY this time.) Still. I'm trying to find more time to knit. Still. It's hot and muggy. Still. My life seems to be on hold. Still.

I have new blogging goals of 2-3 times a week. Just 15minutes of my time 2-3 times a week. I think I can handle that.

I've sent out my swap package to Paula. I'm very excited for her to get it. I picked goodies I thought she'd like but had a very hard time with chocolate. This is one of her favorite things, especially dark.....But it's summer and mailing chocolate with wool is asking for a tragedy. But I think she'll be happy.

This is the first SOS08 sock. I have cast on for the second sock today and hope to be finished by Friday. This is the Ginny Weasley pattern and I am using Chewy Spaghetti in the Sunset colorway.

I'm hoping the new bag I ordered from Loopy to come tomorrow. Also, I am waiting on my swap package from Kellie. Yup, I'll be checking out the mail before my husband!

Forever and a day

Since I haven't updated in forever I thought I would today.

I have been working on non sock project. Trying to finish everything so I can go "whole hog" into SOS'08. I have plans to knock out socks from my stash that I have been wanting to knit. I'm very excited to get going.

This weeks focus is finishing up my Loopy Swap II package. I'm am picking up goodies and finishing the knitting. Looking good for my deadline.

Since my last post I've finished my Lace Ribbon Scarf

I have also worked on this basic Triangle Shawl made from Mountain Colors Mohair in Tamarack

And...... Loopy was spotted vacationing with the gnomes in my yard. It was very exciting! One of the Gnomes was overheard saying "It was great that Loopy got to GNO ME on a more personal level!"

I have been knitting mom's socks for Mother's Day. I'm using J. Knits AC-130. I've used J. Knits before with great success. Remember my Loopy sock swap for Pam? Those were knit on 1's and mom tried them on and said they were perfect. Good to know.

I am making the chevron pattern from Sensational Socks. I started with a 0 needle because it had more stitches (66) and it was too tight. So a frogging it went. Started again with a 1. Too small still.... Frogged....Added another repeat which is eleven stitches..... HUGE....Frogged......again.....UGH! So.....Now I'm trying 0's with 77 stitches.

By now, surely, I've knit this sock enough to have finish the damn pair! If this doesn't work......I'm burning the yarn......Well it's wool so maybe I (can't) won't burn it.

I got up a little early today so I could work on the afghan. I'm hoping to finish this last square in row two and get it blocked for class tomorrow. This is what I saw in the kitchen....

Swaps and such

I am ready and running for The Loopy Swap 2. I am going to be checking my sources for info on my down stream partner and planning on projects and goodies. I'm excited to get to know new people.

I'm almost finished with my Loopy club socks for March. I am currently on the toe decreases of sock 2! I'm on the second row on the Afghan. And I've frogged a big chunk of my Noro sock because I thought the stockinette would be too uncomfortable.

We have a very busy weekend planned. Starting with the girl having a half day and we plan to go to LYS and checking out their big spring sale. Tomorrow two kids are going with Gma for the Saturday early movie special. One kid will be going to State to visit his girl, one will be helping a fellow scout on their Eagle project and another will be working. ML and I are going shopping for ingredients and such to make Orzo salad, Potato casserole and a veggie salad for my friend whom is having a 1st Communion party [we will be attending on Sunday.] Hopefully the farmer's market will be helpful in this. We also are planning to go order the flooring for our big Kitchen remo. Then my brother and his wife will be coming for dinner and cards. And, because I'm a procrastinator, I will have to work in order to get out the Robotics team shirts in time. I don't think there will be much knitting time.

My weekend goal for knitting is to finish my Loopy club sock. I said it out load so now I am committed to that, right?

I participated in the Wee tiny sock swap hosted by yarnmiracle. I haven't received mine yet today but have high hopes for today.

the reason you want a PDA to have Internet is so you can check your forums when your on the go.....

You catch site updates... and panic because you think it's gone.....forever.....

you can't understand why anyone would NOT be on ravelry.....even the non-knitters.....

I have been rather lazy about blogging. I keep thinking I'll have something interesting to say and I'll blog tomorrow. It never seems to be interesting though. It's just my life.

But today as I sit contemplating my visit with Ann Marie over knitting and coffee, I realized not that anything specific we said was so fabulous but rather just the chatting and sharing was. I enjoy the listening and sharing stories and learning about her life.

I guess that's what blogging is missing. The sharing.

Life has been very busy this week. ML and I went to Georgia to visit with Stephanie and brought home thisThis is Rosalie she is an absolute sweetie and a great addition to the family. Everyone is loving her even Nina.

On the knitting front I still am working on the same socks and I've started a prayer shawl. I am going to knitting in the morning with the intent to finish the Murky pair. Today I purchased these fabulous shoes to show off my knitted socks! Aren't they cute?

I got my swap package in the mail today. WOW is not enough said. Lynda, my upstream partner, did a super job. She sent Duets in Chocolate Crunch which is the perfect mix of reds and browns. a darling Sock Monkey knitting bag, biscotti, salt water taffy, Godiva Chocolates, sock blockers, soak wash sampler and pecans from her grandma's house. And........

The most beautiful shawl in browns and I'm sorry I don't know the pattern but it looks like leaves. I just can't believe I have such a talented partner. I have been sooooo lucky in this swap to have got her.

Week off school

No school for winter break. We seem to be having a lazy catch up time of things. I scheduled Eye Dr and Dentist appointments and things like that. I have high hopes for all bedrooms to be cleaned and sheets washed. Tonight some of the kids will be going to the Pistons Basketball game and ML will be at school so I think the rest will go out to dinner somewhere.

It's super cold out. I can't wait for summer to be here. I have to go grocery shopping and the thought of loading and unloading the van with the wind ripping through you has me snuggled under a blanket with the dog instead.

Speaking of dogs. ML and I will be going to Georgia to visit Stephanie for the weekend and we'll be bringing a dog home. Another Chihuahua, so Nina will have a new friend named Rosalie. I think every one is excited. She will be a rescue and I here how sweet she is from all that know her so I'm sure she'll be a good fit.

My swap partner received her package and said she loved it and the socks fit. That's a big relief. I can't seem to get any more photos uploaded so I'll try again later.

I've also started two new socks. 1st pair is Chewy Spaghetti in Murky. Just a basic rib. The second pair is Duets in Neon Love. It's mostly st st but it does have a cute lace heart around the leg.

I also am working on a scarf with Schaefer in Rosa Parks. I think I'm intrequed with this scarf. It's got me thinking about what other scarfs I might like. Maybe it just too cold out today to think of any thing but staying warm.

Yesterday my husband and I became the proud parents of our third adult child. Happy 18th Birthday to Rick.

So, I have changed my username on Ravelry. It is now Kash. I got tired of looking at my name all ran together and since I think my initials are pretty cool I went with them. It seems kinda weird now though. We'll see if it makes any difference.

I am rounding the corner home on my swap project. It's been adding stress to my life in a way I had not expected. I'm worried I used the wrong pattern for the yarn I chose. I'm worried she won't like the yarn or think I did a good job knittting. What if it doesn't fit? I am not usually this insecure about things. I'll be glad when it's over. I hope she loves everything. I'm trying really hard.

I am almost finished with the Math Nerd socks for ML. I have broken my third Lantern Moon needle and it's put that pair on hold until I can replace it. It's the third one, it's kind of embarrassing really.

We have several inches of snow on the ground today with a nice thick layer of ice under it. Of course since the schools called a snow day last week (when we had almost no snow) they all went today. You only get two snow days figured in the calander and if more are taken school gets out later in the summer and the teachers and other staff hate that. So off to school we go after deicing the van and prying the frozen doors open and almost killing myself on the icy driveway. Happy winter to you, too.

We sent this adult child out to supervise the.. uhm.. Shoveling.

They seemed to enjoy themselves. Good job anyway!

Snow day!

Happy snow day for all the school kids out there. Although we only have a lame 3 inches of snow right now it is supoosed to keep snowing all day. I plan on knitting until ML makes it home from St. Louis. Then I'll give him a big kiss and a tight hug. Then I'll probally knit some more.

Excitement and Concerns

The weather threat is 9-12 inches of snow starting about midnight. I like the snow when there is only enough to cover the grass or so much that school is canceled and noone needs to leave the house. If we get the predicted snow tomorrow it may delay ML's air travel. NOT a good thing. So I'll pray for a safe and on time return.

I've been plugging along on my socks. I have two pair I'm progressing on and one pair on hold (sorry ML). The 1st pair is for me. The Perchance to knit-Pond II. I'm working on the foot of the second of the pair. The other pair is the new Swap partner version. This is going much better but I am concerned the colorway will be boring for my partner. I hope she'll enjoy them though. I think they're nice. I'm thinking of making a pair for myself also which is a suprise because I only have "Frank" socks right now.

And speaking of Frank color socks. ML went to the Loopy Ewe and is bringing home yarn. I can't wait to see the colors he chose. I am trying to get at least one pair of socks done so I can cast on with a new pair right away! I can't wait.

I AM REDEEMED!!! As I usually make lame stuff like hot dogs and mac & cheese when ML won't be home for dinner, the kids prefer to eat the junk any way. The adult kid asked what was planned for dinner, I said "chicken patty sandwiches." He responds with, "Crap- is it going to be like this all week? I so would prefer you to cook real food!" HA! It's nice to actually have some one who enjoys my food. I think he and I will have Chicken Parmesan with the frozen homemade spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, salad and pasta. The young and uncultured will eat chicken on a bun with ketchup and raw carrots!

Well, I know ML would rather be home to eat with us than in that God for saken place he has to be. I love you, tons. I miss you too.

Changing plans & other fun

I've decided, after knitting halfway through the gusset on the Thelonious that I can not continue. I have found 3 mistakes in the lace which would require frogging all the way back to the 10th row to fix them. I've changed plans. I am working on a new sock with a new yarn. I hope this works out better.

Last night we had my brother and his wife along with my cousin and his wife over for dinner and cards. We had fun playing cards and visiting.

We were talking about this special gift ML commissioned for my Christmas gift. My brother designed and built it.

My brother says, "Oh, are you talking about the Sock cocks?" Honestly! That's what he thought they were called. I almost peed my pants. He's not just another pretty face you know.

Thelonious Day

Fun with the kids

We went this weekend to Frankenmuth and stayed at Zender's Splash City. We always stay at an indoor water park to celebrate our anniversary. Zender's was the smallest of the water parks but it was the closest distance. Just over an hour away.

ML found the hot tub.

My mom loves water stuff and came along to enjoy the kids.

At one point he actually asked where every one was. When I answered "swimming" he says "Oh- makes sense." DUH! Only the brightest can be so dumb.

The older boy child didn't stay with us now that he's a too cool adult but he did drive up to have dinner at the restaurant with his girl so that was nice. I didn't think to take a picture of him eating a mound of Zender's family style chicken dinner. I think we all had fun. Next time we'll go back to one of the bigger parks.

This is my sock. Perchance to Knit, Pond II. It's actually the third attempt. I changed needle size and then changed to the 2x2 rib. I think this is the winner.

I've been pretty busy with regular life stuff. Kids getting sick... kid eating too much cookie dough... incidents not related one another.... just regular life stuff... cooking... laundry... cleaning... hanging with family... the days are escaping me.

Today is our wedding anniversary. Nothing exciting planned. We went to lunch with ML's Aunt and he's working all day and then going to class. So I'll spend tonight listening to whining kids and the other fun parts of every day life by myself.

I am working on socks for me in Perchance to Knit's "Pond II." They're on size 0's, 64 stitches, 2x2 ribbing.

I also have socks for My Love on the needles. Yarn Nerd's "Math Nerd" of course, size 0's, 68 stitches, 3x1 ribbing.

My big deal project is for my swap partner. It's a pattern from Cookie A. I have not done any of her pattern's before so I am finding it to be a nice challenge. I am a little worried that they won't fit my partner. I did a gauge swatch and checked her measurements but I won't know until she has them to try on. I hope the fit.

I haven't taken any photo's. I'll work on that tomorrow.

Waiting for life to return to normal

Thanksgiving, Black Thursday, Christmas Eve and Day, Day After Party, New Year's Eve and Day, ML's Birthday and Ohio. I am done. Stick a knitting needle in me. Starting 7:00am, Monday the 7th my life will return to the mundane, ordinary scheduled life I prefer. I will resume a normal school schedule for the kids, no wanted or unwanted holiday visitors and no more disruptions from my preference of sock knitting. I've been having with drawls. Really... Do you know how many empty sock blockers are in need of warm cozy wool loops in pretty colors waiting to be covered? It is embarrassing. Naked blockers... I am ashamed.

I started my next pair of socks on the way home from Ohio. I will be diligent on starting another pair tomorrow. One pair easily worked on with out much thought. One pair that will keep my mind busily thinking. SOCKS, SOCKS, SOCKS!!! I scream SOCKS! and giddily laugh. By the way, this is perfectly sane ranting. SOCKS! SOCKS! SOCKS! heheheheheh

I have been finishing up the shopping and wrapping. I feel good about the level of completeness I've achieved. Still have some odds and ends to pick up and a few things yet to arrive via the UPS man.

I finished a "Wavy Flower" Hat by Pick up sticks.

It's super cute.

I started a pair a wrist warmers with the Lorna's Laces in "Flame" from the Loopy Ewe. I actually have one completed and will start the second today. I'll have to photo them when the Girl child is home to model them.

I have been super busy doing I don't even know what. I'm trying to finish xmas shopping. There's never enough money, time or items in stock.

I finished Felting Katie's bowl.

Isn't it cute? Well, at least the model is.

I felted the snowbabies and finished the details, too. I'm not sure I like them..... I'm not going to show them until I decide.

I started a new hat. It is "Wavy Flower" a felted hat by pick up sticks. It's seems to be flowing well and I'm looking forward to getting it done. I'm using a Cascade #9404 a deep red as CC and #4002 a charcoal grey as MC.

The Weekend

Saturday we spent the first part of the day shopping and running errands. Just boring necessities stuff. The second part of the day was spent cleaning. We cleaned the loft....The two bedrooms.... cleared off every flat surface and wiped them down. Got rid of lots of things the boys had outgrown/lost pieces to/broke/don't need/want all to get ready for the new and improved xmas things the boys will outgrow/lose pieces/break/not want/need. What a circle.

Next week we'll clean the basement family room..... laundry room.... adult boy's room...... and the girl's room. Uggh!

I did get a very lovely package from http://www.theloopyewe.com/ I was very happy to end the days hard work with some yarn petting. Very relaxing.

Sunday was actually a laid back day. We canceled plans to go to my Mom's because of the threatening weather [which actually was minimal] so I was able to get some knitting done for gifts.

Snow babies and clothes are done.

I have been fighting with the lights on this stupid xmas village for over an hour. There are cords and non-working lights every where. It's driving me nuts! I would so rather have been knitting on my ML's sock.

Since I have nothing to report on knitting I thought I would insert my favorite Ricky photo from Darla. She sent it via email, wasn't that nice. She also sent a copy of our xmas cards so we could approve of them. They are great. I can't wait 'til people start getting them in the mail. They crack me up.

So now I feel better. Off I go to fight the village.... and the people.

Busy, Busy

We had a very busy weekend. Saturday we met friends at the DIA and enjoyed all the art. I think they did a great job in the remodel. We also went to dinner and enjoyed telling stories and sharing laughs.

Today was put out the holiday decorations day. That's always a little hectic and crazy. But it's mostly done and my husband is happy. Holiday spirit, here we are.

I also finished ML first sock... Now on to the second.

Even Nina knows socks are the way to go!

My Love's Socks

I have been working on my Love's socks. I started his socks, ripped them out, started them, ripped them out, again! I now am on track and doing do well. I'm working on the gusset decreases.

I've set aside my snow babies so I can work on these socks. I'll reconvene with the babies soon.

I've been on raverly a lot. I like checking to see what choices people have made about the patterns and yarns that I have interest in making.

I've also been trying to figure out how to make patches on my embroidery machine. Of course that's work so not nearly as fun as knitting.

I finally got my invite to Ravelry so I've been spending all my time on there.

I have managed to knit two "Snow baby" bodies and the bottom ball section of the third. That ended badly however. I did not have enough yarn to do the top ball so I ripped the whole third body out and now I have a small, sad ball of yarn. I'll have to either nix that one or buy more yarn. I haven't decided yet.

I also am casting on for my Love's socks. I've cast on three times and ripped it right back to nothing so I've decided to change the style of cast on. I am not having any luck with the double needles.

Catching up

I finished my socks on Wednesday. I had enough yarn and even some leftover.

I wore them to my friend Linda's on Saturday and she asked about my socks. I was very proud to tell her I made them myself. She said they were awesome!

I also started on the Snowbabies that will be Xmas gifts. So far all I have done is one body. I'll start another today.

I decided I better finish the socks I started when I took the magic loop class. They are a Sport weight (Mission Falls) so they should be long finished but I had gotten tired of them. I definitely like the delicateness of fingering.

I didn't have that much knitting time considering we had Thanksgiving dinner for 25 or so of our family and Friends. I actually got away with minimal work as my love cooks the turkey and stuffing. I also delegated many of the other dishes to the guests so all I had to do was clean (w/ the kids help) and look pretty. I enjoyed visiting and playing cards. It was a lovely day.

The kids finally got their pics taken Sunday. I can't wait to see them. I'm sure Darla has got the perfect shots.

We had a very busy and crazy weekend so I didn't have much knitting time. I'm still working on my socks. I'm working on the decreases after the gusset of the 2nd one. I am happy with how they're turning out. I am, however, worried I might run out of yarn. Just a little worried. Okay, I'm getting more and more worried as I go. I did weigh the 1st sock and it was 52g and the ball for the 2nd weighed 59g so I should be okay but the ball is looking really small.

I am going to be making these things for gifts for my loved ones. I know my mom will love to have a snowman and since she probally wouldn't wear many knitted items (or carry a bag) I like this as a solution to giving a hand made gift. The first of the pair went off without a hitch. The second was going along very nicely..... until I realized I had FIVE extra stitches. It took me the better part of an hour to tink my way back to the mistake, where I had forgot a section of decreases. I'm now back on track and have finished the old shale section of the second sock.

I think I need to get some sock blockers. Although the girl child was more than happy to model my sock and point out how nicely it fit her foot.

Cold,wet and dreary day

The pictures have been rescheduled for next Sunday because of the lousy Michigan weather. Oh well. I also decided to change the clothes they were going to wear so I have more time for that.

I've decided to catalog my yarn stash here. So I will be doing that later today I hope.

I also started socks for me. I've chosen to again use the http://stitchesofviolet.blogspot.com/2004/12/old-shale-two-yarn-sock-pattern.html pattern. I am using a size US 1 for the cuff and I think I'll switch to a US 0 for the body. The yarn is from my LYS, it's Colinette in the "Popsicle" colorway.

I'm still working on the girl's last sock. Time is escaping me. I have been not feeling the best, this cold of death seems very happy settled in my chest.

The girl's birthday was yesterday. She picked out her b-day dinner [hamburgers, periogis, salad and cannolis] and she was very excited about getting real gold earrings. She also requested "yarn, more yarn and even more yarn." How can that not make you smile.

I am for sure going to finish this sock TODAY. I hope!

Oh- and I did purchase the yarn I want to use to make a felted bowl for my living room. I think this will be my next project.

I have finished all the boy's socks. Woo-Hoo. I'm working on the girl's second sock. I'm doing the "Old shale" pattern on the ankle as a fold over cuff with a 7x1 ribbing over all. http://stitchesofviolet.blogspot.com/2004/12/old-shale-two-yarn-sock-pattern.html I made a couple modifications, I shortened the pattern repeat from 24 to 16 for the fold over so she can wear them with boots. I used ShiBuiknits, Orchid colorway purchased from http://www.theloopyewe.com/. They are turning out soooooo cute. It is way more fun to use a interesting pattern.

Deadline changes but the work stays the same

We are having senior pictures taken for my son and X-mas pics of all the kids. So I thought it would be great to knit socks for each kid in their "color code." Originally the date was Nov. 4th but my oldest made plans to go with his girl for the weekend. You know- everything revolves around love. So the new date is Nov. 11th. Which, thankfully, takes my stress level down a notch since I now have another week to finish these socks.

I am struggling with how serious I am about this whole BLOG thing. I intend to keep track of the things that I knit. What pattern, type of yarn, were there any problems or changes? That way, I'll know everything in case I want do it again. I'm just not sure how diligent I am. It's taking away from my knitting time. I'm not sure I want to give that time up.

Time will tell. [No pun intended] And so, with this, it has officially begun.

By the way I'm working on an ankle sock for my son, Opal yarn in Oskar der Traumer (that's German) basically it's black and white variegated. I am using a size 1 needle with 64st. The top ribbing is 6 rows 2x2 K,P. Just a basic sock. The 4th pair, all same stats except colors.

I'm off to knit.
